Building Confidence and Knowledge in Maths and English

As a mum of 3 children myself, I have over 20 years experience of being a parent and 17 years experience of working in educational and childcare settings. During this time, I’ve built up a tonne of experience of how different teachers teach, what works well and what doesn’t.

So drawing on all my experience from a schoolchild myself, a parent, my jobs and all the training and qualifications (including my degree) I’ve undertaken over the years, I’ve created the following list of techniques that will help children to learn in the best way for them. Everyone in the Starr Tutoring Team is fully trained in these techniques: The Starr Tutoring Techniques:

If your child is struggling with their times tables and you would like some ideas on how to support them, click on the link below to download access our free course demonstrating games you can play with your child to help them to learn their times tables in a fun way.

  • Capture interest.
  • Boost confidence.
  • Work with strength and weaknesses.
  • Enjoyable so the child would relax.
(The more we relax, the more susceptible we are to learning).
  • Variety. Worksheets don’t work for everyone.
  • Range of learning styles.
  • Value of money.

Why choose us?

The techniques we use are based on building the learner’s confidence and having fun whilst we learn.

Starr Tutoring puts the fun back into maths and English and strive to be the best tutors in the world! We work as a close team, sharing ideas and working hard to achieve this goal, so every single one of our tutors will give every child they work with their personal and professional best.We work with children from KS1 through to the end of their GCSE’s in the core subjects of Maths and English. We also have a wide range of experience of working with children who have educational needs such as dyslexia and autism.

We work with children from KS1, KS2, KS3 and right through to the end of their GCSE’s in both maths and English. The resources we use are also suitable for those who have a range of educational needs such as dyslexia and autism.

Dawn has been helping us for 2 years now and we are so pleased with how the children have progressed. Our eldest son exceeded his target GCSEs with the help from Dawn. The games and strategies she uses have made learning much easier.

Dawn has been tutoring my son for a year. He has made excellent progress and is more confident both personally and academically…

We have had Dawn tutor our daughter for over 2 years. She is such a wonderful person and has been a huge help teaching Maths, so much so that our daughter achieved a ‘B’ in her higher GCSE Maths paper!

Dawn has great strategies for teaching including using different games which was great for learning. My daughter’s favourite was the fishing game, not only a memory game but helped with times tables too! We can’t recommend her enough. She brings fun to Maths, thank you.

I’ve only had a couple of weeks of session with Dawn and so far she has helped me far more than any other tutor or teacher I’ve ever had has. she is patient with me and my dyscalculia, warm and smiley in her approach and has even made me enjoy some of the maths which for me is beyond a foreign concept! Highly recommended!

Dawn has been a fantastic maths tutor for my 10 year old son. Her gentle, but thorough approach has been just right. She has made his maths lessons fun and interesting. He used to hate maths, his confidence has grown so much, heis really enjoying it now.

Thank you so much!

Hi Dawn, We are so pleased with how Molly is progressing her confidence is markedly growing. She loves the games; it just shows she’s learning without even realising it and we love them because she looks forward to your lessons each week. Win Win!!! Kind regards, Georgina (Thame)

Dawn is great with my daughter, makes learning fun and they have fun without her knowing she is learning. This is what my daughter needs right now. My daughter’s confidence in her academic work has grown and she needs confidence to move forwards. It’s great to get immediate feedback from Dawn and discuss our daughter’s feedback in an open manner. Highly recommend Starr Tutoring
